For over a decade I have travelled through the Aude department. An area located in Southern France. With the mediteraneean sea on the east side and the Pyrenees mountains in the south, this part of France was once home to the Cathars. I grew up a couple hours away from those of those castles but I never learned in school who were those people that lived in my region centuries ago. When I first started hiking through Peyrepertuse or the village of Minerve, I felt the mysticism and the long history that were present through the walls of those fortress.

As you learn about the Cathars and depending what website or book you read, the Cathar also called the good men are described as a Christian sect. Now their name has became more known but for a long time the Cathars were a mistery and their history was shared through stories like the cruisade and what happened to the city of Beziers in 1209.
